keeper  Keeper of Reign Books written in blood. Most are lost, their Keepers with them. A curse that befell a people. A Kingdom with no King. Life couldn’t get more harrowing for the Elfies, a blend of Elves and Fairies. Or for sixteen-year-old Jules Blaze. Or could it? For Jules, the heir of a Keeper, no less, suspects his family hides a forgotten secret. It was bad enough that his people, the Elfies of Reign, triggered a curse which reduced the entire inhabitants to a mere inch centuries ago. All because of one Keeper who failed his purpose. Even the King’s Ancient Books, did not help ward off that anathema. Now, Gehzurolle, the evil lord, and his armies of Scorpents, seem bent on destroying Jules and his family. Why? Gehzurolle’s agents hunt for Jules as he journeys into enemy land to find the truth. Truth that could save him and his family, and possibly even reverse the age-long curse. Provided Jules doesn't get himself killed first.

Excerpt:

Jules said, “We need a plan. Let’s check what’s missing.” He rushed to the hearth and pried the loose brick to the side. He reached his arm deep and thought he felt the soft nap of the pouch but then he jerked his hand back out and sucked on his finger.” Ouch!”

Ralston said, “We can’t afford to lose your pouch—maybe the only way to buy things if we have to look for Mom or Dad.”

Jules glared at him.

Ralston said, “What’s wrong?”

Jules reached back into the hole, this time less enthusiastically. “Something sharp.” When he pulled it out he stared at the shard of glass in his hand. “Hold this, Rals.”

Ralston held the sharp edge gingerly. “Is it yours?”

“Would I put something sharp like that to cut myself up?” Jules then brought out his pouch, and sighed. He gave its contents a quick peek and slipped the soft pouch into his cloak pocket.

“It’s a good thing the burglars missed that,” Ralston said. “Should we toss this?” He passed the shard to Jules who turned it over.

“Some words here.” He read, “‘—ook within.’ What’s that mean?”

About the author:

emmaAuthor Emma Right Emma Right is a happy wife and homeschool mother of five living in the Pacific West Coast of the USA. Besides running a busy home, and looking after their five pets, which includes two cats, two bunnies and a Long-haired dachshund, she also writes stories for her children. She loves the Lord and His Word deeply, and when she doesn't have her nose in a book, she is telling her kids to get theirs in one. Right worked as a copywriter for two major advertising agencies and won several awards, including the prestigious Clio Award for her ads, before she settled down to have children.

Interview:

1. What inspired you to write this book?
When I first heard the Switchfoot song , "Meant to Live" (for so much more) it got me thinking about how far short each of us fall from our true potential. The trials and troubles of this world reduce us, and it feels that our troubled world is so big. This is just like how it was for the Elfies. Also I'd read Destined to Reign, and it inspired me to think of possibilities. I wanted to write a fantastical story for children (10-16) to help them see that no matter how small they feel or how big their problems there is always a way out if they persevere.

2. What characters do you connect with most?
Eleazer in the prologue. He's the King's helper, and he knew the King personally, yet even he felt fear, and didn't have total confidence that what the King had left for the people of Reign, Books written in the King's own blood, was enough to overcome Gehzurolle (german word for "confounder'). And that feels like how things are for me sometimes. Even after all the miracles I have seen and witnessed I still have fear, and that is what the enemy will use to try to overcome me.

3. What's your favorite book-turned movie?

I'm going to sound so cliche, but, The Lord of the Rings is my most favorite movie trilogy.

4. If you could be best friends with one of your characters, who would it be?

Abel Seacrest, the mysterious Elfie who lives in the abandoned squirrel dray. He's been around for so long and has witnessed so many changes to the Kingdom, he probably has a great story to tell.

5. Can you tell us about any other books you're writing?

Keeper of Reign 2 is in the works and should be ready early 2014. I am also working (in the editing stage) another series , targeted more at girls, 14 and up, (also YA), and it has more character development. It's titled, Dead Dreams, and is a psychological thriller mystery.

6. What do you do in your spare time?
Read and write, my two most favorite things to do.

7. Who's your inspiration?
It's not one particular human. Life and generally everything around me could inspire me. I see stories around every corner. I just wish I had the time to download them…like a computer!

8. If you were stranded on a desert island which character do you want by your side?
Someone who can make a pencil and papers, so at least I can use the time there to write stories. How about the dad in Swiss Family Robinson?

9. Team Edward or Jacob?
Okay, this might hurt some of you--no offense meant, but seriously? It's like being stuck with either the devil or the deep blue sea? I don't think I could trust a vampire, nor do I gravitate toward wolfboy. I'd probably feel safer being on my own.

10. Team Peeta or Gale?
Either one--they seem like great characters. But probably Gale.

11. What are you reading now?
Beautiful Creatures series.
