Synopsis:

The fates of Cinder and Scarlet collide as a Lunar threat spreads across the Earth...

Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She's trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she'll be the Commonwealth's most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother's whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

Review:

For a sequel to Marissa Meyer’s Cinder, a riveting retelling of love and sacrifice, I was thoroughly disappointed. I am sure Meyer had good intentions, but the characters of the story just did not translate well to her format. I found Scarlet to be completely unrelatable, and though her hot-headedness was cute at times, it was a bit too irrational for me to stomach. The idea was great, retelling Red Riding Hood as an epic adventure, but the book felt too lengthy and as though Meyer could have used half the pages. The one part I did enjoy was the emergence of the character Thorne, an ex-convict (by escape) and ex-cadet of the American Aviary sector. Cute and charming, Thorne was what kept me reading with enthusiasm, though he is only a minor character. All in all I feel the characters could have been better developed and less situation-driven, so for this I give Scarlet a two out of five stars.

It's funny how people see books in such different ways.
I loved this book as much as I loved the first one (maybe it helped that I read them one right after the other one, so it felt more like two parts in the same book).

Anyways, too bad it didn't work for you that well, I can't wait for Cress tomorrow!
